Act Your A.G.E!
The keys to staying motivated for healthy living
10:00
AM in Conference Room One
Dr. Tim Hindmarsh
Samaritan Sweet Home
Family Medicine
Healthy living is about being Aware of your
health, setting Goals to take charge of
your health, and recognizing Excuses that
get in your way. Come learn how to harness these tools from Dr. Tim
Hindmarsh, whose passion is to see everyone take charge of their health
and "act alive".
Originally from Saskatchewan province of Canada,
Dr. Hindmarsh has been a family physician in East Linn County since
1994. Today he practices at Samaritan Sweet Home Family Medicine. He is
also the medical director at Pregnancy Alternatives Center in Lebanon
and a board member of East Linn Christian Academy. He is well-known
for leading the annual Act Alive event in Lebanon, through which he has
participated in several sports activities in one day to raise money for
class scholarships for diabetes patients at Samaritan Lebanon Community
Hospital.
Act Alive has raised $34,000 for diabetes patients in
five years. In addition, Dr. Hindmarsh has received two prestigious
awards for his efforts. Oregon Health Sciences University gave him the
Award for Outstanding Contribution to Rural Healthcare in 2006, and the
Oregon Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports gave him a
Fitness Leadership award in 2008.
Acupuncture
11:00
AM in Conference Room One
Bonnie Lorenz
In Chinese medicine any
illness or symptom, either physical, mental or of the spirit, is
associated with an imbalance of the person’s vital life energy, or Qi.
When the body sends out distress signals in the form of any symptom it
is a sign that there is an imbalance of Qi, which must be rebalanced to
restore health.
This principle of Acupuncture
is important because it means the underlying cause of the disease is
being dealt with rather than merely the symptoms, only to reappear
in the future.
Introduction to Gluten Intolerance and
Celiac Disease
12:00 noon in Conference Room One
Nadine Grzeskowiak, RN CEN
About Nadine:
In November 2006, I was finally diagnosed with celiac disease. By the
time I was correctly diagnosed, I thought I would be dead in six months
or less. I was 40 years old. I have been an ER nurse for 16 years, I saw
multiple doctors, and still could not figure out what was killing me.
Within 2 weeks of being on a gluten-free diet, I felt much better! By
February 2007, I started RN On Call, my own business. In March 2007, I
became a gluten intolerance/celiac disease educator. I can save more
people with this information than I ever could have saved in the
emergency department.
About the presentation:
If you think that celiac disease doesn’t affect you, your family, and
your friends – think again! Currently, it is estimated that 1 out of 100
Americans has celiac disease. That works out to approximately 3 million
people. Of those, only 3% have been diagnosed. If you suffer from any of
the following symptoms, you may be one of the 97% of undiagnosed people:
Chronic anemia/fatigue, muscle and joint pain, depression/irritability,
thyroid disorders, infertility, any GI problem, migraines, psychiatric
disorders, seizures, skin rashes, and 300 more associated signs,
symptoms and diagnoses. 40-60% of people with Celiac Disease report NO
SYMPTOMS. The Introduction to Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease
presentation will teach you the basics of gluten intolerance and celiac
disease and what it means to lead a gluten free lifestyle. Change your
diet and finally feel better!
Laughter Yoga
1:00 PM in Conference Room One
Jean Bonifas
Laughter Yoga is a revolutionary idea –
simple and profound. An exercise routine, it is sweeping the world and
is a complete wellbeing workout. The first laughter club was launched
March 13, 1995, with merely a handful of persons. Today, it has become a
worldwide phenomenon with more than
6000 Social Laughter Clubs in about
60 countries. Laughter Yoga combines Unconditional Laughter with Yogic
Breathing (Pranayama). Anyone can Laugh for No Reason, without relying
on humor, jokes or comedy. Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a
group; with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into
real and contagious laughter. The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a
scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real
laughter. One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits.
